Has anyone got SMS Text messages working with Optus (Australia)?
Hi,
I have an Optus account, the drop-down for the SMS carrier says "T-Mobile (Optus Zoo)" so I suppose that's it. I tried sending a test SMS but nothing's come through. What format does the phone number need to be? I've tried 438xxxxxx, 0438xxxxxx, 61438xxxxxx and 610438xxxxxx.

You may want to search around on your carrier's website for the equivalent of the following at
http://www.rogers.com/web/Rogers.portal?_nfpb=true&_pageLabel=GCT&_nfls=true&setLanguage=en&sub_template=email_text_commands&template=wireless-text
or, just try sending the text "Help" to 0000000000 (10 zeros) to see what comes back. If anything does, you have a email to text gateway. This is old technology, back when dinosaurs roamed the earth and text messages were expensive. Spammers sending to phone numbers could be blocked, because the message notification was a system message, and you could then decide if you wanted to pay money to see the real message.
Alas, the carriers that used this system have not caught up with today's reality.
But I have an account with Net2mobile.com.au (which you have to pay a reasonably modest amount to)... which works as an email ([email protected]) ... but I can't work out how to email the actual temp etc.
